Dan's Chilli Time Trial Commentary

April 14, 2004

April doesn't get any nicer than tonight, except when guys faster than me stay home.

Congratulations to long-time local bike personality and wrench Bob Woo on the birth of this first child, Jacky Durand Woo. Apparently it was an extremely long labor.

Conditions were good, but not good enough to justify the fast times we had. Let's try to ride a little slower and more sensibly next time.

Dan Altorfer - 27:25 Received a 30-sec bonus deduction for first time wearing of Proctor team jersey. See, it does make you faster.

Jerry Porter - 27:11 Huge improvement attributed to inspiring speech given by motivational speaker.... living in a van...down by the river!

Dennis Turczyn - 26:55 Rode in from Waukegan, said he was "a little too warmed up".

Marty Reeves - 25:58 Due to Bob Woo's absence from shop had to ride nickel-plated high wheeler again. But with aerobars. Despite major improvement in time, said he felt "Hillinated" when I passed him. My wife replies: "Hey, for the past 6 years I've been "Hillinated" every Fri. night. If you don't like it just stop and get off. And don't worry, no matter how slow you go you're going to be done in under 30 minutes."

Eric Weber - 25:51 Said he was riding for distance, not time. Eric's distance: 10 miles.

Ken Beckler - 25:03 Ken’s secret? Breathrite Strips. One on the nose to open his breathing, two over his mouth to keep out the bugs.

Dan Hill - 24:40 "Macramé PLUS Pottery: A New Beginning" class cutting deep into my training time.

Kelly Sparks - 24:03 Impressive time (with no aerobars) but said he felt "Becklerized" when Greg passed him. Mrs. Ken was not available for comment.

Greg Springborn - 23:42 Another victory without aerobars, though Greg did use the famous "Flying Frog" position. Said for $1000 he'll tell Robbie Ventura how to train and where to go.

I've noticed we've never had a rider come from the Bloomington-Normal area to do our little test. This is in spite of several of them having exorbitant amounts of free time. Could it be...they're yeller???
